Developing Materials – Increasing Safety
Developing Materials – Increasing Safety
Probably no other discovery over the past hundred years has had such a profound impact on our lives as the car. However, unlike the early days of automotive production, metal is no longer the be-all and end-all. Plastics are increasingly being used, especially materials from the large family of polyurethanes. They reduce vehicle weight, which in turn cuts fuel consumption and conserves the world's resources. What's more, they also ensure greater stability and therefore improved safety.

Road traffic has become much safer in recent years. This has been achieved in part through technical progress – not least through the use of new plastics that Bayer has developed and manufactured over the past few years for the automotive industry.

Plastics from Bayer MaterialScience are used by all major car manufacturers today to make life safer. Bayer MaterialScience research scientists are committed to achieving further improvements in these tried-and-tested materials.
