Exploring Life – Fulfilling Dreams
To make a contribution toward shaping the future, you need to have your sights set on a clear objective. Bayer's objective is to improve the quality of life through its products and services. Examples of success include new products that treat previously incurable diseases, others that help safeguard harvests, and new materials that increase safety, through innovations in automotive design and fuel economy. The company has focused particularly on biotechnology and nanotechnology because they offer enormous potential for the work carried out by the three subgroups Bayer HealthCare, Bayer CropScience and Bayer MaterialScience.
It comes down to progress, innovation and safeguarding the future. These topics have a long-standing history at Bayer – our very identity has always hinged on having the courage to explore new avenues.
Yet we are not alone when it comes to taking these new routes. At Bayer we know that expertise in technology is not enough and that progress can only really occur when knowledge, experience and visionary thinking meet.
That means that our identity as an inventor company also requires us to focus on the needs of mankind: Bayer sees itself as a "corporate citizen", i.e. a company that is an established member of society – with all the rights and obligations that this entails. But how does Bayer live up to this social responsibility? The answer is by focusing on products that will offer people concrete benefits in their everyday lives, through transparency and openness in our dealings with employees and the public and, finally, through the company's commitment to the environment and people with special needs.
This aspiration is reflected in our mission statement. We want to be measured against it – in every single country we operate in and by every single employee that works for us.
