Improving Health – Boosting Vitality
Improving Health – Boosting Vitality
Work, family, friends, hobbies – it takes time to do justice to them all. That’s why many people try to do more in less time – they believe that they’ll get more out of life if they increase their activity level. But look closely at the equation: instead of more, what often comes out at the end is far less, because a hectic lifestyle makes big demands on the body. And the body is likely to respond with exhaustion and increased susceptibility to illness – and also with symptoms like pain and heartburn.

Tried and trusted self-medication products from Bayer HealthCare can help to relieve minor health problems, but here too, prevention is always better than cure. That’s why it’s important to give the body what it needs, particularly in periods of increased physical and mental exertion. Vitamins and minerals, for example. They are vital to life because they play a part in so many metabolic processes. The body is not able to synthesize vitamins itself – a quirk of nature in an otherwise successful design.

The building blocks of life were not discovered until around 90 years ago. Today we distinguish between water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins. The first group includes the B-complex vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin, folic acid, biotin and pantothenic acid) plus vitamin C; the second comprises vitamins A, E, D and K.

A balanced diet provides a healthy body with enough of these substances. During stressful periods or illness, however, the body’s requirements increase, and if the amount provided in the diet is insufficient, it rapidly draws on its reserves. In addition to all the individuals who lead a busy life in general, pregnant women, performance athletes, senior citizens, smokers, vegetarians and stressed individuals, in particular, need to make sure they get an adequate supply of vitamins.

Bayer HealthCare’s Consumer Care Division markets a number of multivitamin products that combine balanced amounts of vitamins with minerals and trace elements: Supradyn is available in over 100 countries, Berocca in about 50. And the One-A-Day line is specially tailored to the needs of the American market.
