Protecting Nature – Motivating Young People
Protecting Nature – Motivating Young People
For Bayer AG, sustainable development counts as one of the key issues of the 21st century. We are committed to shaping our long-term business processes so that they meet society's economic, environmental and social needs and thus help safeguard the basis of man's existence for future generations.

Environmental protection plays a key role in this. In cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Bayer has supported environmental projects for young people in the Asia-Pacific region for many years now.

Chairman of the Bayer Board of Management Werner Wenning and UNEP Executive Director Prof. Klaus Töpfer recently signed a partnership agreement to launch this successful cooperation on a global scale. This makes Bayer UNEP's first private-sector partner for its Youth and the Environment campaign.

The Bayer-UNEP partnership covers a variety of joint projects, with the "Bayer Young Environmental Envoy – in Partnership with UNEP" program at its core. Bayer offers young people from Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe the opportunity to participate in a one-week study trip to experience first-hand the modern methods of environmental protection practiced in Germany. Discussions with experts from Bayer and representatives of the German environmental authorities focus on the interplay between state, industry and private households. As "environmental envoys", the young people return home with their new experiences and discoveries and can then contribute to advancing the notion of sustainable development in their own countries.

Werner Wenning, Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer AG, said: "Environmental protection is and will remain a key issue and one which we have to advance across national boundaries and generations. Our commitment to youth environmental work is a great investment in the true meaning of sustainable development for the future."
