The many innovations Bayer has brought the world have contributed to making people's everyday lives easier. Two examples are aspirin, the world's best-known painkiller, and the multifunctional plastic Makrolon. As a research-oriented company, we are committed to improving our products and developing new solutions for the benefit of society. We achieve this through innovative thinking and exceptional scientific knowledge.

To reflect and re-enforce the particular importance that science holds for our society, we support the interest of young people in the world of research and experimentation through various international projects. For example, Bayer launched the "Making Science Make Sense" educational initiative in the USA over ten years ago. More than a thousand Bayer employees are voluntarily involved in contributing to the scientific education of young people in US schools. Classes with interesting hands-on experiments generate curiosity about the sciences among students. Astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison is national spokesperson of the nationwide program. Bayer supports similar educational programs in Japan, the UK and Ireland.

The company also invites young people to several of its sites in Germany to become a researcher for a day, e.g. in the field of molecular biology. The students get the chance to work in a professional laboratory under expert supervision. What's more, Bayer has also supported the "Jugend forscht" youth research competition in Germany for a number of years. For Bayer, an inventor company, the future begins today by supporting and assisting the inventors of tomorrow.
